We are road race fans who work for frontline emergency medical services as Paramedics, Advanced Paramedics and Doctors. We provide pre hospital emergency care at all Motorcycling Ireland (MCUI SC) road racing events. Our team brings over 100 years of combined experience at all levels of pre hospital emergency care, utilising the highest standards of training and equipment currently available.
All of our funding comes from the rider’s medical levy and supporters who generously give their time and money to ensure that we can continue to provide this high standard of care for both riders and spectators.
We operate a multi disciplined response system. When a red flag incident requiring medical assistance is declared all race traffic is stopped and once The Clerk of Course ensures that it is safe to do so, despatches our motorcycle response units simultaneously with our response car. The bikes are staffed by Paramedics and Doctors who carry a basic equipment level to deal with immediately life threatening problems.
Our response car brings extra advanced paramedics and a Doctor as well as more advanced equipment to the scene. If the patient requires transport to hospital we can utilise Ambulances provided by our colleagues in the voluntary ambulance organisations
We always endeavour to have sufficient personnel and equipment to deal with simultaneous incidents involving more than one patient.
In 2008 The MCI Medical Team responded to 32 incidents and treated 38 patients. The cost of medications and equipment used was 1340 Euro. This equipment was all paid for by rider’s medical levy and donations from supporters and friends.
