29/05/2010    JD Motorcycles Continue Their Support of Rider Care & Safety.

The care and compassion that John Donnan held for his fellow riders lives on in John’s memory with the annual John Donnan Memorial Run which has taken place each year since John’s death in 2007.

Following the recent 2010 John Donnan Memorial Run which finished on the Tandragee race circuit, JD Motorcycle’s Amelia Fowles and John’s Son Billy Donnan proudly present MCI Medical Team Paramedics Richie Elliott, Conor Keogh, Jim Leonard and Ray Taylor with a brand new Laerdal Airway Suction Unit which is a vital life saving piece of equipment.

To date John’s memorial runs have raised funds which have provided pole protector safety bales for all road races and a cardiac monitor/defibrillator.

The MCI Medical Team would like to express their thanks for the continued support from Amelia & JD Motorcycles and to all the riders and contributors of the memorial runs from whose donations make the purchase of equipment to aid and improve rider safety and welfare.

20/03/2010    With the 2010 motorcycle road race season almost upon us and preparations in full swing by all, the MCI medical Team met on 18th March in Mondello Park.

The purpose of the day in Mondello was for a day of team building and scenario exercises to see if there was room for improvement with the teams already rapid response to any red flag situations where a rider, marshal or spectator may be injured.

The day started off with some classroom discussion where new medical protocols were discussed and to ensure we are up to spec in the ever changing world of pre-hospital emergency care.

Also discussed was the safety aspect of driving on a race circuit and we sat through a very interesting lesson from Stevie Nugent who is a former racer and well respected advanced driving instructor.

Following lunch the medical team split into “syndicates” to put to practice the lessons we had gone over in the classroom. With the help of the marshals and riders who turned out that day to assist us we put together some mock red flag incidents out on circuit.

So complete with our cars and bikes we responded to these “red flags” and honed our skills in both the driving and safety approach to the incident as well as our medical approach, as a first class medical team in preparation for the 2010 road race season.

At the end of the day the team got together to discuss all areas of the day to see how we performed and to ensure we are happy with our set up for the forthcoming season.

We can assure you all the MCI Medical Team are now fully prepared to respond to any red flag situation that we may be faced with, at the same time hoping that we spend most of our time sitting by the sideline enjoying the exciting sport that is motorcycle road racing.

We would like to extend a huge word of thanks to the following who without their help by giving up their time free, the day would not have went ahead,

John Morris, Managing Director of Mondello Park who provided us with the Mondello Park racing circuit, all it’s facilities including two-way radios and an endless supply of tea and coffee all free of charge.

Herbie Ronan, Myles Byrne and Stevie Nugent for their invaluable on track tuition.

Glen Whelan Jay Murray and Stuart Halliday for marshalling and setting up/assisting in the training exercises.

Anita Campbell for the catering.

Flashpoint Systems for the supply of training mannequins.

Paul Phipps of Nevis Marketing.

Paul Creavey for supplying a car for the day.

Aidan Lynam and Darren Healy journalists.

Motorsport Rescue Services for supplying their team van and use of it’s equipment.

We wish you all a very happy and successful 2010 race season,

Yours in sport,

MCI Medical Team.
